Want to take a 360° virtual tour of a city? MapXact allowed Deutsche Telekom to do just that. Using 360° photography and 3D scans, we created a lifelike 3D visualisation. The plans for new street cabinets in German cities thus became very tangible. The impact of changes could be seen at a glance.
DEUTSCHE TELEKOM TAKES MAPXACT ON BOARD
‘Make us a proposal,’ the municipality of Cologne said. When Deutsche Telekom came with the request to expand the network capacity with bigger street cabinets, the municipality wanted to see what the impact would be. How would the change affect the streetscape? To give the municipality as clear a picture as possible, Deutsche Telekom took MapXact on board.
3D VISUALISATIONS OF COMPLETE GERMAN CITIES
Meanwhile MapXact has been making 3D visualisations of entire German cities. We used 360° photographs and 3D scans to produce a realistic 3D virtual tour. Not only did we show the exact location of street cabinets. Next to it we also placed a 3D model of a new, larger version on top of the visualisation. The impact of the change could be seen at a glance.
VIRTUAL TOUR IN THE APP
MapXact developed a special app for this project. Based on 360° photos and 3D scans, the app shows the exact environment in a clear form. The result? A 360° virtual tour in high resolution with an overview from every angle. At a glance, a real-time image of the impact that larger street cabinets will have on the streetscape of German cities.
