Well begun is half done. That is certainly true with a large and important construction project like the new lock in IJmuiden. Thanks to the detailed 3D visualisation of over- and underground infrastructure, the process could be set up as efficiently as possible. MapXact not only prevented delays in the project, but also excavation damage.
DETAILED UNDERGROUND MAPPING
The new lock in IJmuiden has had extensive news coverage. Between the existing locks, a new sea lock with a length of 500 metres, a width of 70 metres and a depth of 17 metres is currently being built. The contractors VolkerWessels and BAM called MapXact in to produce a detailed image of the complete underground infrastructure in the form of 3D visualisation.
3D VISUALISATION OF THE PROJECT SITE
Using 3D scans, MapXact also produced a reliable 3D visualisation of the overground infrastructure. You can therefore walk through the lock’s construction site from the comfort of your office chair. The map shows you at a glance what is where. Efficient project scheduling and budgeting becomes easy.
MAPXACT PREVENTS EXCAVATION DAMAGE DURING LOCK CONSTRUCTION
Besides the overground environment, MapXact precisely mapped everything that could be found underground at the project site. Whereas the client indicated that there were six cables beneath the ground, after our first measurement we already counted ten times as many cables and pipelines. This precise information has prevented delays and damage during construction. A small initial investment that brings great benefits in the end.
The benefits OF MAPXACT FOR BUILDING PROJECTS:
- Project site detailed in a 3D visualisation, both over- and underground.
- Targeted, efficient project scheduling and budgeting
- Prevents excavation damage and delays; no surprises during construction
- Substantial cost-savings
- Minimal disturbances to road and ship traffic
